Why is it that a ranger with a longbow can't shoot an arrow over the wall onto the charr heads? The main reason of having a wall is to not get attacked every week and bring down enemys with a ranged attack. You can only attack them after you opened the door, it sucks

They might have fixed it in the last update, if so just ignore this topic.

if the charr is too far away you cant shoot

if they are right close to the wall by you the wall is blocking you

what is there to fix?

i shoot ones close enough to hit and when they come in drop fire on them

Imagine an archer. Tell him to shoot straight up in the air and ask him for his arrow to hit the monster on the other side of a 20 foot high wall. See how often he hits.

One in six, I sat outside a church wall with my brother for about 3 hours trying this. Then the big cry-baby insisted on going to the hospital. I didnt even sharpen the arrows...sheesh

If you had ever played the Norlani Academy mission you should know that you start around the top of the wall.Only about 30 cm higher than you.
It would be much harder for the monsters to hit you.

The game calculates the distance going down to much, ex.

I can't shoot an enemy 5 m away and 100m down beacuse hes to far away.If he was just 5m away I could hit him with my bow.

Then why can't you simply go on top of the wall?
invisible walls, sheesh.

Maybe it's there so that one person doesn't rain a fiery death from above while an entire army sits there, just takes it, and dies one by one?

if they would just stand there...it sounds more like an ai problem....i mean, if it were me, i wouldnt know how to fight back...but i would sure now how to run as far away as i can

you should still be able to hit soemone if they are that close to you, but the arrow just has to go a long way down. Arrows fall...they fall until they hit something. They dont just disappear after they travel a certain distance form a bow. Thats just not how they work.

Sometimes things are done for the sake of gameplay balance and to avoid potential exploits and abuse. Real world physics take a back seat when this happens.

How could you exploit this if the enemies did what any rational being would do and run away?

this honestly seems like a legitimate tactic. And ,why i dont care too much about if it works, I just cant think a legitimate reason why it shouldnt

The reason now, that if you open the door you get instantly flooded, is because you are supposed to SNEAK out of Nolani Academy, not open the gate, walk out and say hello.

That worked once in the beta, but when we tried it the time after release, we were massacred instantly. The point of Nolani is to sneak out and around the charr and take them from behind, not go straight into their army that wants to invade the Academy, think of the story and how the mission is stated and its more meant to sneak out, hence why you can't just barrage with arrows and spells ontop of the wall.

Pocketmancer reference

Anyways, I think one of the reason is because the ranger's bow position when he/she fires is not in a 180 degree angle like many would think. The ranger rarely moves his/her bow and usually shoots it diagonally upwards, or North East/North West. This means that the arrow trajectory can only hit certain places. In some instances, it would require the ranger to shoot straight up or straight down, in which case you are not allowed to do so.

Simple.

For some reason everything is really big compared to the characters in this game, inluding the walls. Most obvious example is at the end of gates of kryta and you run over the bridge to lions arch in the cutscene. Those planks of wood are HUUGEE!

I believe you are absolutely correct in that this seems like it would be a great supported feature. I'm sure the reason it hasn't been done is because it really would be a lot of work to make it right -- if the monsters don't currently run away in such a case, it would really break the mission. Making monsters "smart" is always much harder than it looks.

.
they are not 5 m away to start

your *radar circle* is 88 feet

the max range of a longbow is 167 feet

most of the charr outside the walls are much further beyond the radar circle out of bow range
